2019-2020 Shaker Rain Barrel Project

Collaborating with the Shaker Music Festival to raise awareness around BC Smart water practices and sustainable rain water harvesting

IMG_1022.jpg
THIS PROJECT AIMS TO BRING AWARENESS AROUND WATER CONSERVATION WHILE SUPPORTING AND CELEBRATING COMMUNITY, THE ARTS, AND THE SHAKERS GREEN INITIATIVES

This is a multi-faceted project to highlight the arts community, give back to organizations that advocate for community sustainability, and to continue developing the Shaker green initiatives. The cost of the barrels are split into three funding streams:
1. to pay local artists to paint master pieces onto the barrels
2. to donate to a deserving organization in town
3. to invest into our shaker green initiatives

IMPACT

Use your harvested rain to water the garden, clean the dishes, rinse the mud off your shoes, wash the dog, fill the toilet tank, etc. There’s a number of ways to utilize the rain and always a reason to rejoice in a rainy day!

Your practices contribute towards:

- The United Nations SDG# 6 Clean Water & Sanitation

-Community Resilience & Food Security

-Climate Adaptation

-Self-sufficiency

-‘Living Water Smart, BC’s Water Plan'

Now is the time to think about a regenerative future for tourism and visitor economies.

Bailouts and rescue packages for people and businesses are available but we need to think carefully about what kind of future we want and what incentives and directions are needed to get us there.

One way to approach regenerative tourism is through Design Thinking, this framework has huge potential as a creative thinking, user-centred, action-oriented means of ideating and exploring the future of tourism.
